The device of management of the actions with Gao-sabongari

  • A board of management
  • Two groupings of development (female and male)
  • Committees of study and framing
  • Two auditors

The commune of ASSERAC grants each year a subsidy intended to contribute to the autonomous development of the villagers of GAO used in the form of microphone-credits. Female side, the activities carried out milked with the small trade (groundnut oil extraction, sale of fritters and wafers of millet, sale of local food (Two and Foura) and with the small craft industry (braiding of the plaits and pottery). The male grouping began as for him in the operations of fattening (sheep and bovines).

A first conclusive operation in 2001

30 women profited the first year from the loans of female board of management. The loans generally run a 9 months period. The goal being to thereafter allow the profit women to be autonomous, i.e. to lead their small trade or craft industry with the benefit generated by the loans.

On the level of the male Board of management, 12 men received the first year each one a sheep for the fattening. It was a question here of raising the sheep and of selling them with the approach of Tabaski (festival of the sheep) favourable with this transaction.

To note: For each sold sheep, the benefit are divided into three

  • The 2/3 are given to the stockbreeder
  • The 1/3 remainder (more the start-up capital) are versed with the case of the committee

In front of the success of the results released by the two boards of management (full repayment of the sums in a common case and a payment of interests of about 25% intended to finance new operations), the commune of ASSERAC grants each year a subsidy of 1500 € which comes to be added to refundings in the common case of the granted loans the previous years.

The working capital of the village rises to several thousands of euros and constitutes an element essential with the process of development of the village.

After only five years of operation, several hundreds of families directly profit from now on each year from the benefits of this co-operations decentralized.

Food crisis 2005: financing of an emergency aid

In front of the extent of the food crisis which touched Niger in 2005, the commune of ASSERAC decided to allot in September in addition to the annual subsidy granted within the framework of the convention of partnership an emergency aid of 3 000 € intended to convey foodstuffs bound for Gao-sabongari.
